Addibelle    from In This Life ©2007
Oh the time is gone
When I called this town home
I’ve wondered all over the world
And I was just passin’ through
Thought I’d call on you
The woman I knew as a girl
Well being young don’t last
It’ll fade so fast
Grab your gun by the handle
Let’s see if it shoots
Well I’m wild and I’m free
Take a chance on me
If you can learn how to gamble
I can learn to grow roots
Jackie Frost is packin’ off, Addibelle
Trees awaken as they’re shakin’ off the chill
Come out, come out, come out of your shell
The sun is shinin’ bright and tonight
The moon will as well

But now I done stayed around
This tired old town
Much longer than I would have thought
Just a spendin’ my time
Spinnin’ you all my lines
But it seems like it’s me gettin’ caught
Just to catch a glimpse
Of your face now and then
I wait ‘neath your window
The glass of your grace
Of all the wonders I’ve known
Since I been on my own
Not a one ever moved me
Like the flash of your face
A cricket chorus is singin’ for us, Addibelle
Ah the night was a sight when it fell
Come out, come out, come out of your shell
See the stars fly ‘cross a black sky
Why wish on a well?

But with these small town blues
That old highway can’t lose
And it’s a callin’ me back once again
With the season’s change
I’ll be turnin’ the page
Like an old rusty leaf on the wind
And if you came along
Life would be like a song
I could show this old world
What a treasure I’ve found
Don’t the wild western wind
Ever get in your skin?
Don’t you ever get to wonderin’
What’s beyond this old town?
All the trees have lost their leaves, Addibelle
Little birds seem to sing “fare you well.”
Come out, come out, come out of your shell
Well we might write a new tune
It’s too soon to tell

But when the night’s cold a long
That old highway feels wrong
I get to wonderin’ if I might be missed
All the sights in my mind
I wish I could tie them in twine
To bring back to you for a gift
But it’s with empty hands
That I come back again
A song in the making
And a story or two
Yeah I saw the sunrise
On a hundred skies
But my heart was aching
To share it with you
Living things will long for spring, Addibelle
Snow flies as the cold night winds wail
Come out, come out, come out of your shell
Shine your true eyes while the moon hides
Behind her dark veil.

Ain't Much Changed   from Can't Help but Wonder ©2016
Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
We still meet up, knock down a few cold ones
They built a new prison, between the two old ones
It ainít much has changed round here since you been gone

Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Once a week, we meet in a group
We get together and, hula-hoop
It aint much changed round here since you been gone

Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Fat cats takin, all our money
Still cackling cause they, think its funny
It ainít much has changed round here since you been gone

Ainít much has changed round here since you been gone
Ainít much has changed round here since you been gone
Same TV shows to bore us
Same re-runs, same Chuck Norris
It ainít much changed round here since you been gone

Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Few new wrinkles on the, same faces
Few new tattoos on some, strange places
It ainít much changed round here since you been gone

Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Ainít much changed round here since you been gone
Still stuck in the, same traffic
Still shocked by the, same static
It ainít much changed round here since you been gone

Almighty Buzz   from In This Life ©2007
You’ve got
Grass in your head
Your eyes they are red
And you forgot what you said
Every
Thing that you say
Seems far away
Like from some other day
You’ve got
Your life on a roll
Your whole world
Fits in a bole
If you wanna be kind
Be careful because
Life gets confusin’
On the almighty buzz.

You’ve got
A trip on your tongue
Makes you feel young
Forget where you’re from
Every
Thing seems so clear
And strange things appear
When you look at the mirror
But one more
Hit to your brain
And you might
Forget that you’re sane
But as long as it’s doin’
The things that it does
You keep on pursuin’
The almighty buzz

You got
Your prescription filled
And though you’re not ill
You’re sure poppin’ pills
Every
Pain fades away
Until the next day
When there’s hell to pay
You’ve made
A cure your disease
With each week
The dose you increase
As your health fades away
The doctors can’t find the cause
So it’s a brand new prescription
Of the almighty buzz

Day break
Dawns once again
Your head starts to spin
And so you begin
But one day
You’ll be old and grey
And what will you say
You did on the way?
So keep it
Under control
And don’t try
To burn out your soul
Cause you go with the flow
Till you’re caught in the floods
When you’re livin’ your life for
The almighty buzz.

A mare    from Protest Songs etc.   ©2004
In pages past with a cannon’s blast
A beautiful mare was born
And soon was sold for a money role
From her mother she was torn
She grew and she grew
And she galloped and she flew
And her beauty was far beyond namin’
And strong was the man
With her bridle in his hand
For she did not take to tamin’

In the days that came with the bullets rain
The mare was left abandoned
And soon grew wild like a motherless child
For a lack of a master’s commandin’
Her head was strong as she galloped along
With the fury inside her awoken
And many men tried this mare to ride
They were left with bodies broken

In the strangest of times with all life on the line
The mare is a wild wind a blowin’
In the fire of her eye like the fourth of July
The sorrow of ages is showin’
Though men still dare to saddle the mare
They may only ride where she’ll take them
But by natural law she is destined to fall
For even the strongest are taken.

Anachronistic Man   from The Jester ©2010
Well I was born in the 1970s
And I been there all my life
All this new technology
Is hard on a guy like me
I grew up in the sunshine
No struggles strains or strife
But somehow I still had the blues
It was just inside of me

I have lived life like a hobo
And a poet vagabond
Made sure I had plenty of time
Just to lay around and wonder why
I have played some stages solo
Some duets and some with the band
Got saved by a heavenly angel
And I didn’t even have to die

Anachronistic man
Somehow that’s who I am
Moving to some ancient rhythm
Looking for some long lost rhyme
Like a stranger in a strange land
I’m anachronistic man
A man who is old timey
May be ahead of his time

Angelina   ©2013
Angelina
Words between the two of us were few
Angelina
You’d call the tunes and I’d learn them for you
Between us
There wasn’t much we could say
Ah but we found a way
When we’d sing the same songs
Grin the same grin
Watch the same memories beginning to end
Angelina
I hope you know what that meant to me

Angelina
Time we had was like a bird that flew
Angelina
I picked the flowers from the old songs you knew
Between us
We’d say all that we could say
Then we’d both drift away
To the days of your youth
When the old world was yours
Beautiful clarity of hard times endured
Angelina
I hope you know what that meant to me

Anything but Free  ©2003
Comforts of this world
They are not for me
I’m like a traveler who
Rests beneath a tree
Then I’ll go my way
Wherever that may be
Ah but how can it be anything but free?

The faith of your father is burning before you
Till the scriptures are too hard to see
You’re incensed and outraged
To the hate-teenth degree
Ah but why would you be anything
But free?

Conflicts of this world
They are not for me
I’m like a traveler who
Rests beneath a tree
Then I’ll go my way
Wherever that may be
Ah but how can it be anything but free?

The fierce vindication appears with impatience
You’re faithful and work feverishly
You’re incensed and outraged
To the Hate-teenth degree
Ah but why would you be anything
But free?

Any Time the Wind Blows   from Protest Songs etc. ©2004
Well sweet smilin’ Siddhartha
Had already been through hell
When suddenly, under a tree
He started feelin’ well
He said life is made of quicksand
You better learn to float
And Mother Nature made the world
But that ain’t all she wrote
And now he’s just a knick-knack
On a Happy Buddha plate
Portrayed as some ol’ fat man
And man, he never over ate

But any time the wind blows
And it shakes an apple down
The fools all say that apple
Must have come up from the ground

When JC hit Jerusalem
He came in on a donkey
He never was no rich kid
He never was no honkey
He had a dark complexion
And the man was full of soul
If he had played piano
He’d have played like Jellyrole
But some people just don’t have the heart
To call a man their master
Not unless his eyes are blue
With skin like alabaster

But any time the wind blows
And it shakes an apple down
The fools all say that apple
Must have come up from the ground

Moses met Mohamed
On the other side of Jordan
And if old Larry King had been there on the air
He wouldn’t have gotten a word in
The prophets talked about old times
They both spoke of the strange roads they’d traveled
And they laughed into tears ‘bout those old earth-years fears
As the old scrolls of stories unraveled
Mohamed said “man I went and hid in a cave
As if that could keep God from returnin!”
Moses said “hell, I stopped dropped and rolled
First time I saw that bush burnin!
Oh to hear that sacred call
The only pain is resistin’
If only all those people who keep shoutin’ our names
Would forget about us and just listen!”

But any time the wind blows
And it shakes an apple down
The fools all say that apple
Must have come up from the ground

Well maybe there’s a planet
Out in the universe
With a peace to every puzzle
And a cure to every curse
And maybe they can shed some light
If only just a glimpse
To help us get our heads on straight
And make a little sense
And then we can all be free!
Live in Unity! And then
Some other planet will come kill us off
Like Columbus did the Indian

But any time the wind blows
And it shakes an apple down
The fools all say that apple
Must have come up from the ground

Are You Gonna be the One?   from In This Life ©2007
Sun burnin’ from the light of the moon
Table’s turnin’ on the old silver spoon
Fingers yearnin’ for the touch of a tune
To turn them on
Two voices in the same pair of shoes
New noises leave you too scared to choose
Some choices stick with you like tattoos
You burn them on

Are you gonna be the one
Are you gonna be the one
Are you gonna be the one
To break my heart?

Eye lashes out at old flame’s gleam
Time clashes with a beautiful dream
Light flashes on a free flowin’ stream
And then it’s gone
Your lips tremble from the things that you heard
My thoughts are nimble but I trip on the words
Just remember that the heart of o bird
Is in its song

Are you gonna be the one
Are you gonna be the one
Are you gonna be the one
To break my heart?

Back to the Farm   from The Jester ©2010
I come from South Kentucky
My life was on the farm
How I wound up in Washington
Is a most peculiar yarn
It all began that mournful day
When the terrorists shook our lands
And the president started talkin’ tough
In words I could understand
He said they could run but they couldn’t hide
That the evil-doers days were done
My heart swelled up with Amer’can pride
When George said “Bring em’ on”
I rolled into town, bought a big W
And I stuck it up under my flag
Yes my heart swelled for Georgie
But that don’t mean I’m a fanatic
I was real proud of my W
And I polished it every day
But it weren’t much for the public view
Since no one ever came my way
I layed awake nights wonderin’
How to further help the cause
I resolved to move to Washington
To lick George Bush’s foes

But I’m goin’ back
Back to the farm
I’m goin’ back
Sure as you’re born
Washington DC made Kentucky seem a dream
And the GOP made a monkey outa me
And I’m goin’ back to the farm

I hit the campaign trail
To help Bush win the next election
And every time he shook my hand
I got a red complexion
I reckon he liked my southern draw
For on me he did grow keen
And soon gave me the illustrious job
Of cleanin’ the bus latrine
Owing to my big promotion
I really rose in rank
I now rode in the president’s bus
And cleaned the septic tank
But with such illustrious company
I felt myself absurd
I chose a darkened corner
And I never spoke a word
The president and his mighty men
Discussed their grand affairs
And either they reckoned
I’s deaf and dumb
Or they plum forgot I’s there
As the bus rode through the heartland
Their dark plans came unfurled
And the faces they had on the bus
Ain’t the ones that they showed the world

And I’m goin’ back
Back to the farm
I’m goin’ back
Sure as you’re born
Washington DC made Kentucky seem a dream
And the GOP made a monkey outa’ me
And I’m goin’ back to the farm

Back Roads Boogie   from Lazybirds American Roots ©2012
I got a little gal down Georgia way
She called me up just the other day
She said “sweet daddy I’m here all alone”
She might have said more but I done dropped the phone
I did the back roads boogie
Such an easy ride
Back roads boogie, boogie down the countryside
It’s rush hour traffic it’s a quarter past five
A farmer on a tractor lettin’ his little boy drive
I slam on the brakes and I stop with some screeches
I see a roadside stand I gotta stop and get some peaches
Doin’ the back roads boogie
Such an easy ride
Back roads boogie, boogie down the countryside

Out on the interstate you just can’t win
With all the big big-rigs pinning you in
But the back roads boogie is just my style
Open it up down the country miles
And do the back roads boogie
Such an easy ride
Back roads boogie, boogie down the countryside.

Ballad of the Man of Flame   from Protest Songs etc. ©2004
In ancient times there lived a man
We do not know his name
But he was first of men of earth
To ever make a flame
He journeyed to the wilderness
And there he learned his trade
Then he walked around from town to town
To show how fire was made

He traveled to the northern land
Where ice and snow are king
And he helped the people understand
The warmth a fire will bring
He did not ask for payment no
He did not ask for praise
And walking around from town to town
Was how he spent his days

Well the people passed the news around
As people always do
And they called his name the man of flame
And so his legend grew
They called his name the man of flame
And they gave him gems and gold
But he refused for he had no use
For rocks so dull and cold

Well the high priests in their castle walls
Had heard the rumors too
And they saw the fires burn in the night
So they knew that it was true
And they saw how people praised the man
And they were filled with fear
For they knew if he were roaming free
All their power would disappear

So they called on him to dine with them
And so he did oblige
And they tried to please with finest feast
And sway with finest wine
And they said that he could be the king
If they could hold the flame
But he refused for he had no use
For cold and lonely flame

Too bad said they you feel that way
We wish we could change your mind
But before you go let’s toast once more
With one more glass of wine
And the man of flame did toast and say
“May fires burn always”
And as the poisoned glass fell to the floor
He finished up his days

Well the people soon were wondering
Where had their hero gone
For it wasn’t his way for him to stay
Away for quite so long
And some said they had heard it said
That he’d been to a feast
And some had passed him on the path
To the palace of the priests

Well the priests they were a clever crew
And they saw suspicions rise
So they tried to turn the truth around
And slip into disguise
They said “the man of flame is gone
He’s drownded in the mire
But we’ve made an alter for his clothes
And hi stools for making fire”

Well the people came from miles around
To kneel before the shrine
And they left their gifts of gems and gold
And also finest wine
And nations raised to sing his praise
And wars he did inspire
And as the ages passed they called him Lord
But they never made a fire.

Be Here Now  from The Jester ©2010
It’s the age of communication
But please don’t all talk at once
We had a lot more peace and quiet
Back when we communicated with grunts “huh”
Sweet silence once was golden
It’s a precious diamond now
And if you ever wanna hear it shine
Just try to Be Here Now
Why would you try
To carry ‘round the past so long?
It’s like you’ll only hear the same old song
And why would you cry
And worry ‘bout what might happen?
Ain’t no predictin’ where lightnin’ will be zappin’
And why would you lie
And try to say that what is isn’t?
Every moment is a gift
That’s why they call it the present
Be here now.
Well some of these politicians lately
They sure got a lot to learn
But I don’t guess they ever will
Cause they always fightin’ bout getting’ their turn
They say just get me elected
I promise I’ll getcha paid up somehow
But we’d all be a lot better off if they’d just
Be Here Now
Why do they try
To carry ‘round the past so long?
It’s like they’ll only hear the same old song
And why do they try
To make us worry ‘bout what might happen?
Ain’t no predictin’ where lightnin’ will be zappin’
And why do they lie
And try to say that what is isn’t?
Every moment is a gift
That’s why they call it the present
Be here now.

It’s been a long time since I seen you baby
And the mornin’s soon to come
So let’s get right to music makin’
No time to tune the drum
Mind as well get a little good lovin’ in
Just as much as time will allow
And I believe time will ‘low a little more
If we just Be Here Now
Why would we try
To carry ‘round the past so long?
Like we’ll only hear the same old song
And why would we cry
And worry ‘bout what might happen?
Ain’t no predictin’ where lightnin’ will be zappin’
And why would we lie
And try to say that what is isn’t?
Every moment is a gift
That’s why they call it the present
Be here now.

Be Real  from Shantavaani Moonflower  ©2012
Well now ain’t the time
To follow the trends
It’s an old hollow road and it don’t ever end
And now ain’t the time
For glittering lights
You have no reflection
When you’re shinin’ so bright
And when you’re shinin’ so bright
You’re dull as the mud
And when you follow the trends you’re a stick in the flood
And a stick in the flood
Can’t go its own way
And a bright shiny light’s got to burn out some day
Be real be real
Walk in the sun
Don’t let your life end before it’s begun
Don’t let your shadow
Keep you apart from the real life
Deep in your heart

And now ain’t the time
To string us along
With meaningless singing of meaningless songs
And now ain’t the time
To strut on the stage
To an old broken record like a cat in a cage
‘Cause a cat in a cage’
Is sad as the flower
That grows by the highway and dies by the hour
Ah it dies by the hour
But the drivers don’t see
With their radios playin’ those
Blind melodies
Be real be real
Walk in the rain
Don’t live your life without passin’ through pain
Don’t let your laughin’
Keep you apart from the real life
Deep in your heart

Be real be real
Find what you can
Follow your mind like the lines of your hand
Don’t let your shadow
Keep you apart from the real life
Deep in your heart

Big Business  from Protest Songs etc ©2004
Gonna give all my business to the small business leave big business alone
The big corporations done warped the nation with carbon copies and clones
Mister Quick Fix turns cheap tricks into grist he grinds into greed
While Miss Mother Nature gets cold dissed while she holds all that we need
Gonna go back to the old time ways that never got goin’ back then
Try to live as if big business never been

The small business man does the best he can but he holds a hard heavy hand
Cause the rent collector’s got no respect for the sweat that his debts demand
Creativity tends to atrophy from complacency with the known
It takes soul power to be the small flower in the field where tall weeds have grown
Gonna go back to the old time ways that never got goin’ back then
Try to live as if big business never been

So let your TV be a novelty so it don’t sleep in your soul
It’s a big distraction it’s a small fraction that tries to seem like the whole
All the noise makers and the music fakers, the greedy takers and drones
Let ‘em have their business cause they’re sure gonna miss us
When we get our own
Gonna go back to the old time ways that never got goin’ back then
Try to live as if big business never been

Brighter in Between  from The Jester ©2010
I’m a gonna give to you
A memory so good
That you won’t wanna hide your love
Even if you could
Even if you could babe
Even if you could
You won’t wanna hide your love
Even if you could

And I’m a gonna write for you
A melody so plain
To let your mind go dancin’ free
When you’re caught up in chains
When you’re caught up in chains babe
When you’re caught up in chains
To let your mind go dancin’ free
When you’re caught up in chains

And I’m a gonna show to you
A light you’ve never seen
As bright it shines on either side
It’s brighter in between
Brighter in between babe
Brighter in between
As bright it shines on either side
It’s brighter in between

Broken Wing   from Soul to Soul ©2013
Broken wing, what will you do?
When the skies seem stacked against you
And the pain is too intense for you
What was easy stuff is hard enough these days
Flyin’s changed from what it used to be
There’s so much beauty, so much agony
Not as graceful, but somehow now
Full of grace
When the storm grows in intensity
And the wind blows in uncertainty
Father Time just seems to kick ya’ passin’ by
All your plans held down with gravity
What you had fell to what had to be
Broken wing, what will you do?
You’ll fly

Carmella   from Soul to Soul©2013
Ray Charles was on the old stereo
In the distance a train was whinin’ low
I looked up and saw a smile sweet and mellow
I was dancin’ on the feet of Carmella
There were dumplins on the stove and in the air
A lot of time love and soul had gone in there
We couldn’t help but feel happy that day
Carmella had made it that way

And there were seven silly seventies girls
Each one a unique little world
And they all found their own lucky fella
Who never fell out of love
With Carmella
Down the stairs come our old Papa Jack
Heart of gold, dirty mouth, hair of black
Everything that he’d say’d make you grin
And Carmella would laugh like the wind.

We were longing to be there again
As we held on to each other’s hand
Water flowed underneath our umbrella
Seven roses at the feet of Carmella
We had all been a babe in her arms
Hel close to her heart like a charm
We couldn’t help but feel happy that day
Carmella had made it that way.

Champaign Annie  from In this Life ©2007
We found ourselves in the middle of the painted desert
With the sun-baked rainbows jumpin’ at the sky
And we found ourselves in the middle of the land of grizzlies
Without a thing to do but wonder why
And now we find ourselves out on this old road
Creepin’ up on the same old sleepy town
And it’s all that I can do
To roll along with you
Cahampaign Annie, please don’t let me down

So many times I made you bear my burdens
Just to leave you standin’ in the rain
You’d smile your nervous smile
And you’d go the extra mile
And you never stopped to grumble or complain
Now every stretch of road is paved with questions
And every bend could spin this wagon round
And it’s all that I can do
To roll along with you
Champaign Annie please don’t let me down

You’ve always been the one to keep me movin’
You brought me out of many miles of pain
And I guess I never guessed
That you might need some rest
I guess I always thought you’d stay the same
No I never thought your backbone might be breakin’
And I might end up pushin’ you around
But it’s all that I can do
To roll along with you
Champaign Annie please don’t let me down

The Child of Plenty and Poverty  from Protest Songs etc ©2004
Oh its many a trial. Its many a sorrow seen
Oh its many a trial. Its many a sorrow seen
Till you can hold the hand of Plenty and Poverty

Out my back, out my back, honey out my back door
Out my back, out my back, honey out my back door
I can see everything I never could see before

I know, I know, I couldn’t be satisfied
I know, I know, I couldn’t be satisfied
Well when your water flows you never know your well’s goin dry

I won’t say much, words never was my friend
No I won’t say much, words never was my friend
The sun’s bound to shine, and light it all up again

Yeah the sun’s bound to shine, clouds gonna roll away
The sun’s bound to shine, clouds gonna roll away
It’ll feel just like, the same old sunny day

Childhood Friends  from Jay Brown ©1996
I been driftin’ back
Into my happy childhood ways
When everything had one design
And every day was lost in time
But then it always slips away
Before I catch the smallest ray
Of daylight from my days gone by
That used to fill my carefree eyes
I’m tryin’ to remember
With my jumbled mind
The way I thought before I fought
The passing of the time
To pass the time away again
With all my childhood friends
And I know that it can be that way again

You don’t know my mind
You can’t get inside my head
And I could never know you true
Cause you could never want me to
To walk together hand in hand
Deep into unpromised land
Just as close as you to me
Far too close for us to see
I’m tryin’ to remember
With my jumbled mind
What I knew well before I fell
A stagger step behind
To pass the time away again
With all my childhood friends
And I know that it can be that way again
To pass the time away again
With all my childhood friends
And I know that it can be that way again.

Crazy Mountains  from Jay Brown ©1996
Well I was drivin’ though the Crazy Mountains
With the red, red clouds arizin’
My mind was filled with a desert sky
And the black hills on the horizon
My mind was filled with a desert sky
And the black hills on the horizon
On both sides of the highway
The billboard signs were screamin’
“Don’t miss Crazy Navajo Joe’s
Souvenirs and Indian Ruins!”
“Don’t miss Crazy Navajo Joe’s
Souvenirs and Indian Ruins!”

Well the winner takes it all
While the loser lies forsaken
The winner takes it all
And it all has been taken

I was tryin’ to imagine
The county without fences
Wonderin’ how this free, free land
Could have so many expenses
Wonderin’ how this free, free land
Could have so many expenses
And the grass was slowly growin’
While the cows were slowly grazin
And life was slowly movin’ on
The Cheyenne reservation
Life was slowly movin’ on
The Cheyenne reservation

Well the winner takes it all
While the loser lies forsaken
The winner takes it all
And it all has been taken

Well I do not hate my homeland
And I have no plans to leave it
But I don’t see how this brave new world
Could bite the hands that feed it
I don’t see how this brave new world
Could bite the hands that feed it

Dance Till We Drop  from Can't Help But Wonder ©2016
Weíll dance till we drop rules and reservations
Weíll dance till we drop heady hesitations
Weíll dance till we drop every non-elation
When we dance till we drop

Weíll dance till we drop spinal rigiditus
Weíll dance till we drop tryin to win uptightest
Weíll dance till we drop all that donít delight us
When we dance till we drop

Get up and get down with me
Lock in with the tambourine

Documentation Blues  from Soul to Soul ©2013
Do do do do do do do do do
That’s the only documentation I have for you
And any time I feel the spirit movin’ in
I’m gonna step outside and take five or ten.
Put the six digits in the boxes
Showin’ your work is half of your work
Got to keep a detailed record of the daily gring
Half the time wonderin’ what the clock says
The other half watchin’ the clock
This is the world of woe I’ll leave behind

Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa is me
The only kind of music I hear is from the copy machine
And any time I start to drummin’ on my desk
Someone come around remind me to stay on task
Put the six digits in the boxes
Showin’ your work is half of your work
Got to keep a detailed record of the daily gring
Half the time wonderin’ what the clock says
The other half watchin’ the clock
This is the world of woe I’ll leave behind

Dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee
Hendriz in my head keep on singin’ “Stone free”
Feel like letting my freak flag fly half mast
Time keep creepin’ by while I’m aging fast
Fill the screen with the day’s distractions
Put the scrambled egg in the nest
Documentation make me wanna climb a tree
Rather be an ape-man swingin’ on branches
Than to be chained to this desk
Music gonna bust me loose just got to find the key

Don’t Let Him Fool You   from In This Life©2007
Don’t let him fool you
He knows just what he’s tryin’ to do
Everything he wants he gets
But he’s had nothing real yet
Don’t let him have you
Don’t let him fool you
The rattlesnake knows how to grin
He wants you, he wants your mother
He wants no love just lots of lovers
All his prayers are a sin

And if it wasn’t for his entourage
He’d be a monkey in a grease garage
And if it wasn’t for his daddy’s name
A local loser he’d always remain
Don’t let him fool you
See him for what he is

Don’t let him fool you
A serpent’s tongue can stammer too
He says he’s praying for his neighbor
But he’s just praying that he can rape her
He call you his neighbor too
Don’t let him fool you
Or you will never more be free
Stand outside yourself and watch him
How he just hides with wealth what’s rotten
Seems like anyone could see

And if you knew about his hidden schemes
You’d know he’s giving you a big routine
He clutchin’ at you cause he’s sinkin’ down
He’s on a one-way trip to has-been town
Don’t let him fool you
See him for what he is

Dr. Sethi (#1)   from In This Life©2007
Doctor Sethi I’m in love with your daughter
The world’s a desert and she’s cool water
I know I don’t fit the part
Fair skin and a poet’s heart
But our love is off the charts Doctor Sethi

I understand you stand on tradition
But I’m a man and I’m on a mission
You know you can’t change the stars
To get to her I could bend steel bars
Tight family ties leave scars Doctor Sethi

Doctor Sethi I’m in love with your daughter
The world’s a desert and she’s cool water
You know that she’s come of age
Her eyes shine with the soul of a sage
Don’t keep a bird in a cage Doctor Sethi

Dr Sethi (#2)   from The Jester©2010
Doctor Sethi
Your eyes and mine are fixed upon the same star
Though we watch from worlds apart
The sweetest sound to ever fill my humble home
Is humming still within your heart
I recall the tears you cried
The night your child became my bride
Seven times around the flame
We share a life, a love, a name
And though the years have moved her many miles
When you see her now
You see your smiling child

Dr Sethi
You could have done what so many have done before
You could have locked your daughter’s door
But when I asked
With humble heart and hair a mess
Something made you tell me yes
This child, you said, is touched by God
I said I’d felt this all along
You asked will I provide for her
I said she’d be my pride in work
And though these calloused hands no riches hold
Each year a little more our garden grows

Dr Sethi
So many times I stumble through my words to you
Hoping not to sound untrue
But after all
There’s only one thing that I want to say to you
Thank you

Down Spiral Blues   from Soul to Soul ©2013
Things are goin’ from bad to worse
But I guess they’re getting’ better
Ever get the feelin’ the autopilot’s blown a fuse
Tried to get the message out
But nobody read my letter
Run here pretty mama
I got them down spiral blues

TV’s got a sales pitch on
Then they cut to the commercial
Ever get to wonderin’ just what happened to the news?
Tried to get the C-span on
But they must have missed rehearsal
Run here pretty mama
I got them down spiral blues

We been wearin’ the tread out
We could crash this turn
If the banks would just get the lead out
We’d all have cash to burn

Money’s an elite disease
But the dirty hands won’t spread it
Ever get the notion to occupy some hobo shoes?
Tried to patent love and peace
But someone already said it
Run here pretty mama
I got them down spiral blues

End of the World Blues   from Lazybirds American Roots ©2012
It was the day, they were callin’ for the end of the world
When the sky, was gonna fall on the wicked world
They said the good would be taken home
While us sinners would be left alone
And that’s just what happened on the day
For the end of the world

Well they said, that the signs couldn’t be more clear
Armageddon gettin’ closer in the rearview mirror
People quit their jobs and packed their grips
Gettin’ ready for the ‘pocalypse
The day came and went
But it still was the end of the world

She disappeared in the blink of an eye
What was weird was she didn’t say why
On the day, they were callin’ for the end of the world
When a fire, was gonna fall on the wicked world
They said the good would be taken away
While us sinners would be left to stay
And that’s just what happened on the day
For the end of the world

She disappeared in the blink of an eye
What was weird was she didn’t say why
On the day, they were callin’ for the end of the world
When a fire, was gonna fall on the wicked world
People profit from these prophesies
But it’s just another rapture tease
But the start of my heart’s decease
Was the end of the world
Yeah the start of my heart’s decease
Was the end of the world

Everything’s Wrong with my Automobile  from In this Life©2007
Everything’s wrong with my automobile I believe it’s turned on me
Everything’s wrong with my automobile I believe it’s turned on me
When I bought it I thought it was a steal
But I got burned I see
I must have rolled over Indian grave stones I must have passed up a hoodoo hitcher
I must have rolled over Indian grave stones I must have passed up a hoodoo hitcher
Cause I keep getting’ broker
While the mechanic keep gettin’ richer
Whatever ain’t broke is breakin’, it’s a wonder that the wheels still roll
Whatever ain’t broke is breakin’, it’s a wonder that the wheels still roll
The only drivin’ it’s doin’s me crazy
And that ain’t far to go
I must have been borned a gamblin’ man just like my Papa was
I must have been borned a gamblin’ man just like old Papa Jack was
Cause if I hadn’t been a gamblin’ man
I spose I would have rode the bus
Just a few more miles I’m pleadin’, make it to my baby’s place
Just a few more miles I’m pleadin’, make it to my baby’s place
Let’s pretend we’re leadin’
Some great big Nascar race
Now I done spent all my money, finally got it runnin’ right
Now I done spent all my money, finally got it runnin’ right
Look behind me see something kind of funny
Those flashing police lights

Eyes of Love   from Can't Help but Wonder ©2016
Man of the woods, found a foundation
Strong as a soft open smile
In your hard hands, the best of creation
Beautiful woman and child

Sweet are the times, we share our hearts and minds
Seeing the eyes of love
When lifeís unkind, we will come home to find
Welcoming eyes of love

Woman of heart, woman of wisdom,
Woman with healing hands
Where do I start, how can I tell you
That you may understand

You are the one, Iíll always look upon
Only with eyes of love
Sweet are the times, we share our hearts and minds
Seeing the eyes of love

Although the forest, is full of shadows
There is a light that shines through
On the young timbers, so that they can grow
I know that I can grow too

Because the light, is shining on me
Out of the eyes of love
You are the one, Iíll always look upon
Only with eyes of love
